Announcement - Submission of grant application to MIRIA

May 14, 2020:  The Horsham Water & Sewer Authority (HWSA) announces its submission of a grant application today to the new Military Installation Remediation and Infrastructure Authority (MIRIA). MIRIA was created for the purpose of carrying out a grant program under PA Act 101 of 2019.  The Act allows for the use of state tax dollars to pay for drinking water costs related to contamination linked to firefighting foams used at military bases in the area.

Together with funds contributed by HWSA, a successful grant award would allow for the continued suspension of the PFAS surcharge as well as reimbursement of prior surcharges paid by HWSA ratepayers.  The grant application also includes a request for funding to connect homes with private wells with levels of PFAS below that which would make them eligible for a military funded connection.

The availability of grant funds will be determined late this year.  Stay tuned.
