Horsham Water & Sewer Authority and Horsham Township have adopted short and long term plans to address the well-publicized PFOS/PFOA contamination that has been linked to the existing and former military facilities in Horsham Township. The Military is providing over $16M in funding to address drinking water supplies in Horsham Township where PFOS and/or PFOA have been detected at concentration levels exceeding the EPA Health Advisory (HA) of 70 parts per trillion (ppt). The Health Advisory funding threshold of 70ppt has unfortunately left behind a significant number of property owners currently utilizing private water supply wells that contain PFOS and/or PFOA.
$10M in infrastructure grant funding to support this effort has been secured through efforts of Representative Todd Stephens. Infrastructure includes nearly 2 miles of new public water mains which will be installed in various areas throughout the Township. Such main installations will make service available to many properties that may currently be served by private wells containing PFOS and/or PFOA, but below the HA, and thus not eligible for Military funding.
The contract for water main installation has been awarded to SJM Construction Company Inc., of Spring House, PA. The work area will impact Cedar Hill Road, between Horsham Road and Lady Violet Drive and is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of August 28, 2017 and take approximately 5-6 weeks for completion. Road Closures, except to local traffic, is expected during this time. As always, access for residents and school buses will be provided.
